April Update

Now that full Covid-19 vaccinations for our team associates and clients are in sight we're looking forward to conducting more in-person business in the latter half of this year; in the meantime we continue to work with clients remotely, permit projects online and conduct site visits with full PPE and social distancing. Thank you so much to our clients and associates for your continued help in our efforts.

It's been a busy couple of months since our last update, so here's a quick peek at some recent project developments. We have a few new-build construction projects underway which will get their own newsletters in the near future!

This Sonoma property has had an extensive remodel, and in this next phase we've designed a new master suite that occupies the garage footprint. We've found this type of development popular with clients in recent years, as it doesn't require you to add to the existing building footprint, and structurally the most that is usually required is the raising of the floor level.

We're really looking forward to sharing the end result of this addition/ remodel with you, it will be one of our most traditional aesthetic projects with some gorgeous cabinetry and finishes.

A new project started this week, the remodel of a Eichler home in Palo Alto! We've had plenty of experience in the midcentury modern aesthetic and details, but this will be our first Eichler specific project. The construction of these homes is simple, logical and infamous, so remodeling to accommodate 21st century conveniences while staying true to design concept will be an exciting challenge.

This is a render from a Sebastopol project that has just completed it's plan check and the construction permit issued. It is a point of pride that this extensive remodel and addition required no plan check revisions! We always expect the worst and hope for the best when we permit projects; every jurisdiction is somewhat different in their temperament, and every plan checker can have a bad day at the office. Now this winning streak tallies at 4 no-revision permits across 3 bay area counties.

The new second story addition of this Sonoma home is in the final stages of construction. It took head scratching and fairly complicated engineering to achieve a design that looked like it had always been a two story home, but the end result really was successful. We look forward to sharing some interior shots with you once work is completed!

These are some initial space planning renders for a new project in Menlo Park. This lower floor requires plenty of reconfiguration to accommodate the client's lifestyle for whom we've had the pleasure of working with in the past! Knowing their taste we designed this large bar and serving area which contains a hidden access to a room beyond. More details on this in a future update.
